Step 1
Use waterproof adhesive to fix specific breaks in wooden decoys. If the neck breaks off, apply a thin layer of the glue. If the eyes or bill fall off, simply apply super-glue and press back on to repair it.
-
Step 2
Locate any pellet holes and look for leaks in plastic decoys. Place in water and look for bubbles or drips of water out of any potential hole. Mark each location you find.
-
Step 3
Use a 1/8 drill bit and drill down through the wall on top of the hole. The larger hole will allow the patching material to form a stronger seal on the decoys.
-
Step 4
Drill one last hole by the tail and place the duck decoy with the tail pointed down to dry. Allow it to dry for at least 2 hours to get rid any moisture.
-
Step 5
Choose a silicone sealant that can be painted easily. Apply sealant using a caulking gun to seal the holes or cracks by pressing firmly into each hole you drilled. Any excess sealant should be smoothed out with a damp cloth so it is even with the other layers.
-
Step 6
Allow the duck decoys to dry in the sun for about 3 days before painting. Use a small brush or a cotton swab to apply the primer. Allow it to dry for at least 2 hours, then apply paint.
