Things You'll Need:
- 1 piece of 12-inch long bamboo
- Table saw
- Drill with 5/16 inch bit
- String
- Beads or seeds
- Wood glue
- Crystals or stones for decoration (optional)
- Paint (optional)
-
Step 1
Cut a piece of bamboo lengthwise through the center with a table saw.
-
Step 2
Drill three evenly spaced holes on the long edges of both bamboo pieces. Drill one hole on the opposite edge of each bamboo piece, which will create the closing apparatus of the incense burner.
-
Step 3
Connect the two pieces by threading string through the two outside holes of the edges with three holes. Tie the string, creating the 'hinges' of the incense burner. Next, tie a bead on a long piece of string and thread the string first through the center hole of the bottom piece. Guide it through the center hole of the opposite edge of the bottom piece, up and in through the other center hole of the top piece, and finally through the opposite center hole.
-
Step 4
Allow about four inches of excess string hanging and tie a knot on the end of the string so that it cannot pull through the hole.
-
Step 5
Glue a bead or seed to the edge of the inside of the bottom bamboo piece. Make sure that the hole of the bead or seed is large enough that you can insert a stick of incense. Position the hole of the bead so that the incense will sit at a 90-degree angle. The ash of the burning incense will drop into the bottom piece of bamboo.
-
Step 6
Decorate your incense burner with crystals, beads, paint or whatever you imagination can come up with for your piece.
-
Step 7
Shut the bamboo incense burner by closing the two pieces together and wrapping the extra string around the bead. Store extra incense sticks in the upper piece of your incense burner.
