Things You'll Need:
- Tub
- Nail brush
- Exfoliating scrub, pumice stone or foot file
- Soap
- Bath salts
- Cuticle stick
- Cotton balls
- Towels
- Optional: nail polish, polish remover, toe separators
-
Step 1
Gather your pedicure supplies and put them within reach, so you have no interruptions.
-
Step 2
Fill your footbath with warm water. A large dishpan or even hanging your feet over the bathtub works in a pinch, but a heated, massaging footbath is a wise investment for anyone who spends a substantial amount of time on his feet.
-
Step 3
Add some soap and salts to the warm water. Scented soap does double duty, providing aromatherapy for your senses while softening and cleaning your tootsies. Salts soften calluses and relieve sore muscles and swelling. Soak for 15 minutes.
-
Step 4
Clean toenails with a nailbrush. Be gentle around cuticles.
-
Step 5
Push cuticles back with a soft cuticle stick, and use nippers to carefully remove any bits of cuticle or dead skin around nails.
-
Step 6
Slough off dead skin with an exfoliating foot scrub, pumice stone or foot file. Stubborn calluses may require a razor. Dip feet in water to remove any residue from sloughing.
-
Step 7
Dry feet with a soft towel, and apply foot cream. Peppermint foot lotions provide a tingling, refreshing sensation. Choose a thick rich cream, as feet tend to have extra-dry skin.
-
Step 8
Paint toes, if desired. Swipe toenails with a little nail polish remover to remove any lotion residue, which might prevent a smooth paint job. Use toe separators to prevent smudged polish.
