Rock the Baby is a great yo-yo trick for a beginner to learn. If you can throw a Gravity Pull and a Sleeper, you can do this yo-yo maneuver. Follow these steps to Rock the Baby.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yo-yo with a fixed axle or transaxle
  1. Step 1

Wind the yo-yo string around its axle all the way and put the string loop around the middle finger of your dominant hand.

  2. Step 2

Grip the yo-yo in the open palm of your right hand with your palm facing upward. Bend your arm at the elbow, bringing the yo-yo towards you as if you are trying to make a muscle.

  3. Step 3

Bring the arm back down with a snap and let the yo-yo roll off your fingers as if throwing a "Sleeper." Turn your hand so the palm faces downward when the yo-yo is completely off your hand.

  4. Step 4

Open your right hand all the way and bring it up in front of you with the elbow bent when the yo-yo reaches the end of the string.

  5. Step 5

Grab the part of the string that is in between the thumb and pointer finger of your right hand with the four fingers of your left hand and pull the string out and down directly under your right hand until the string makes a triangular shape with the yo-yo hanging directly in the middle of the triangle.

  6. Step 6

Swing the yo-yo back and forth through the triangle a few times. Let go of the string. If you have a proper yo-yo, and it is spinning fast enough, it should return directly back into your right hand.

Tips & Warnings
  • You will need a yo-yo with a fixed axle for this trick, which has a clutch that makes it easier for the yo-yo to go back up the string. You can also use a transaxle yo-yo, which has a plastic or ball-bearing sleeve connecting both yo-yo halves at the axle. The transaxle yo-yo makes it easier to get a yo-yo to "sleep" at the bottom of the string.
  • Beginners should practice this trick several times until you can get it to look effortless.
  • Don't get frustrated if you can't do this trick right away, especially if you are a beginner. With practice you will get there.
