It is actually easier to organize a man's closet as opposed to a woman's. Men's clothing is more uniform in size and shape allowing for better use of space. Follow the steps below to help organize a man's closet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two closet rods
  • Two tier shelf
  • Shirt shelves
  • Tap light
  • Batteries
  1. Step 1

Determine whether you will store all seasons of clothes in one closet. If you are lucky enough to have extra closets in your home you will want to store the off season clothes out of your main closet.

  2. Step 2

Hang double rods one on top of the other to maximize hanging space. On the lower rods hang dress slacks on one side and casual slacks and jeans on the other side. Above the dress slacks hang dress shirts and sport coats and above the casual slacks and jeans hang casual shirts.

  3. Step 3

Buy low two-tier shelves to place shoes and boots on. Dress and casual shoes on the lower shelf and boots on the top shelf. Another alternative is to purchase shoe trees to hold shoes.

  4. Step 4

Purchase shelves that will hold folded sweaters, sweatshirts and T-shirts. You can place items directly on shelves or use baskets to hold folded items.

  5. Step 5

Coordinate clothes organization by color family. Hang blues with blues and browns with browns. It will make it much easier to put your hands on the item you need.

  6. Step 6

Illuminate your closet with adequate lighting. If you don't have a light fixture in the closet you can purchase a tap light that runs on batteries to provide light. These can be found at The Container Store.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep everything off the floor in a man's closet so that it is easier to vacuum. There are numerous organizational items to be found at stores such as The Container Store to accomplish this task.
  • Never leave belts on pants that you hang in the closet. The weight of the belt will stretch out the pants and they will become misshapen.
