How to Play Candy Land

Candy Land is one of the first board games that your children can learn. It doesn't require knowing numbers or letters, just colors. Although Candy Land can be played online, this article will concentrate on the board game since it is something your child can learn away from the computer. The object of the game is to be the first player to reach the Candy Castle.

Instructions

    • 1

Unpack the game. You will find 1 game board, 4 gingerbread character pawns and 64 cards.

    • 2

Open the game board and place it on a flat surface. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile within easy reach of all players.

    • 3

Pick a Gingerbread character pawn. Each player picks one of the pawns and places it on the Start space. Two to four people can play.

    • 4

Select a card. The youngest player goes first and chooses the top card. If the card is one red, he will move to the first red square. If he picks two blue he will move two blue spaces. If he draws a picture card, he will have to move to that picture on the board whether it is forward or backwards.

    • 5

Discard the card after moving. Create a new pile next to the draw pile for the discarded cards. These cards will be face up and if you run out of cards in the draw pile, you would shuffle these and start the pile again.

    • 6

Move towards the Candy Castle except when you draw a picture card and have to go backwards. There are two shortcuts that you need to land on by exact count. There are also three licorice spaces which cause you to lose a turn when you land on them.

    • 7

Win the game. The player who reaches the castle first wins Candy Land.

Tips & Warnings

  • More than one player can occupy a space at the same time.
