Consider other options. A sail-like sunshade is less permanent and offers protection anywhere, provided you have poles, trees, or beams to tie it to.

Installing an awning over a deck or patio is also a great way to create shade. Awnings are typically more expensive then other sunshades and may require a professional for installation.
