-
Step 1
Protect table with newspaper or plastic covering to prevent spills or stains.
-
Step 2
Trace templates on sponges with fine marker. Use cookie cutters, plastic shapes or cardboard cut-outs. Trace triangles, squares, circles, ovals and rectangles for pre-school children. Make letters and numbers for your kindergartener. Cut shapes of animals for any age.
-
Step 3
Cut all of the shapes and set them aside. Discard remaining parts of the sponge or find a new way to recycle them. Later store shapes in a zipper bag or plastic container.
-
Step 4
Pour paint onto small paper plates. Use a new plate for each color since the paint will get smeared around the plate and become mixed up.
-
Step 5
Dampen your sponges. This will allow the sponge to expand for better coverage. Squeeze out excess water. Fill a spray bottle with water and leave it nearby to moisten the sponges as needed.
-
Step 6
Press sponge stamp lightly into paint and keep from overloading the sponge. Shapes will be distorted if there is too much paint used.
-
Step 7
Make wrapping paper, greeting cards, recipe boxes, notebooks and photo album covers. Design borders by repeating the pattern. Make a multi-colored sponge design by painting strips of different colors side by side on the sponge. Fill in areas as needed with paint brush.
