Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clothes hamper
  • Laundry detergent
  • Bleach
  • Fabric softener
  • Dryer sheets
  • Laundry basket
  • Hangers
  1. Step 1

Create a sorting system with your husbands' input. Ask your husband where he wants to put his dirty clothes as long as he doesn't choose a pile beside the bed. Use sectioned laundry hampers or sorters so sorting clothes into darks, lights and brights occurs as clothes are worn and become dirty. Include reading labels and a designated spot for dry clean only clothes as part of the system.

  2. Step 2

Explain the basic laundry items to your husband if he is unfamiliar with them. Typical items include pre-treating stain sprays, sticks or liquids, detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets, bleach, hangers and laundry baskets. Be sure to teach him detergent, fabric softeners and bleach are to wash clothes and when to add them to the wash and explain that dryer sheets go in the dryer.

  3. Step 3

Walk your husband through the entire laundry process on laundry day. Bring clothes to the laundry room, ask him to check his pockets and remove any belts still on his shorts or pants. Show him how to place clothes in the washer, measure detergent according to the load size and explain the washer's different settings and which one is best for the current load.

  4. Step 4

Remind your husband to put clothes in the dryer right away to avoid the clothes mildewing or smelling. Show him how many dryer sheets are necessary and which dryer setting is best for the load. Once dry, have him put clothes into a laundry basket and not to leave the clothes in the dryer to prevent wrinkles.

  5. Step 5

Fold clothes with him to make this task less tedious and quicker. Teach him which clothes are best to put on hangers instead of folding.

  6. Step 6

Thank your husband for his time and help with the laundry to encourage his further involvement in this household chore. His help reduces clutter and your laundry time, allowing you two to have more quality time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Label laundry sorters, dark, light or bright, to guide your husband on how to sort.
  • Remind your husband to unfold pants legs and socks before washing.
  • Adding 1/2 cup of baking soda to his laundry with the liquid detergent reduces odor.
