  • Adjustable wrench or pliers
  • Rag or paper towels
  • Cleaner that removes rust, calcium or lime
  • Plumber's tape
  1. Step 1

Unscrew the old shower using pliers or an adjustable wrench. Turn the wrench counterclockwise while holding the shower arm with your other hand.

Remove any rust, calcium or lime buildup from the shower arm with a cleaner designed for the job and a rag or paper towels.

Use plumber's tape and wrap one layer, in a clockwise direction, around the pipe threads on the shower arm after you have dried the threads thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

Screw on the new showerhead in a clockwise direction over the plumber's tape.

  5. Step 5

Stop tightening the shower head as soon as you feel any resistance. It is important not to over tighten the showerhead connection.

Run the water in the shower to make sure there are no leaks. You only need to run the water for about one minute.

  7. Step 7

Tighten the new shower head further, if there is a water leak.

Tips & Warnings
  • Tape the jaws of your pliers or adjustable wrench with duct tape to protect the old the shower head from damage if you plan to use it elsewhere. The tape will also help you get a better grip on the showerhead.
  • Before installing the new shower head, make sure your bathtub or shower stall is completely dry to prevent slipping.
  • Make sure the water is turned off to the shower before removing the old shower head.
