Microsoft Office Publisher is part of the Microsoft Office suite of programs and is a good intro level desktop publishing system for the home user. Users of other Microsoft Office programs will be familiar with Publisher's interface. Here are some tips for working with objects in Microsoft Publisher.

From Quick Guide: Desktop Publishing
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Add a textbox. To create a text object, click on the Text Frame Tool, move the pointer onto the page, hold down the mouse button and drag to create a boundary.

  2. Step 2

Click in the frame you created to type in text. You can also paste in existing text by either clicking on "Insert" in the menu and choosing "Text File", or clicking "Edit, Paste" if the text was saved to the clipboard.

  3. Step 3

Insert Clipart. Create an object for Clipart by selecting the picture tool. Draw to desired size by clicking and dragging the mouse. Clipart is added to the publication in the location and size created.

  4. Step 4

Resize the Clipart. Any selected object can be resized by clicking and dragging the 2-headed arrow from a corner handle. Maintain the proportions by using the corner.

  5. Step 5

Add WordArt by choosing the WordArt tool. Draw the object on the page. WordArt options appear. Now, enter text in the area selected. Apply text style, font and size.

  6. Step 6

Layer text over a piece of Clipart or an image. To layer, place your Clipart on the page where you want it. Then create a text frame and enter text. Use your mouse to move the text on top of the Clipart.

  7. Step 7

Change the background of the text frame to No Fill so you can see the Clipart. Just select the text frame, click on the Fill Color button (paint can) and choose No Fill.

Tips & Warnings
  • WordArt is text with special effects, used for headlines, logos and titles. The WordArt object can be saved as a file and used in other applications.
