1
Obtain a Shut the Box game board that has numbers 1 through 12 on it. Some boxes only go up to 9.
-
2
Roll one dice per player to determine who goes first in this game. High roller goes first, next high number goes next and on down the line.
-
-
3
Roll both die into the box if you are the first player. Cover up the numbers that you've rolled with the counters- either the total number or individual numbers. Cover up the highest numbers that you can. For example, if you roll a 10, you can either cover up the 10 if you haven't already or cover a 1 and a 9; a 5, a 4 and a 1; an 8 and a 2; and so forth.
-
4
Keep rolling your dice and covering up as many high numbers as you can. Numbers covered up cannot be reused. Your turn is over when you roll a number that you cannot match with numbers that remain uncovered.
-
5
Count up the numbers that remain uncovered. This is your score. For example, if you have a 2, a 4 and a 6 uncovered your score is 12.
-
6
Go around the table until everyone has taken their turn.
-
7
Win the game by having the lowest score at the end of the game. If there is a tie, all players who have tied play against each other to determine a winner.
