The Baseball Hall of Fame was founded in 1939 in Cooperstown, in central New York. The small town is reputed to be the birthplace of baseball, created by Cooperstown Civil War hero, Abner Doubleday. From modest beginnings, the museum has grown to honor over 250 players, managers, umpires and builders. In 1984, the site added an $8 million research library and further additions were completed in 2005.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
You can purchase tickets to the Baseball Hall of Fame from the site's ticket office. Discounts are offered for AAA members, seniors and children 12 and younger. Free admission is offered to retired and active members of the military. The Baseball Hall of Fame is open every day except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

The primary exhibits at the Baseball Hall of Fame illustrate the lives and careers of the honorees. These include some of the most revered names in baseball, such as Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Ty Cobb and Roberto Clemente. To be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame, a player must be retired for at least five years. The museum houses over 35,000 baseball artifacts, only a fraction of which are on display.

One of the most popular sections of the Hall of Fame is the "Baseball at the Movies" exhibit, where movies featuring baseball are shown continuously and visitors can view a variety of memorabilia and exhibits about the making of these films.
Step4
The Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and accompanying events are held each July. Activities include baseball clinics, book signings, collectible auctions, the induction ceremony and the Hall of Fame baseball game.
