Things You'll Need:
- Tool set
- Mower fluids
-
Step 1
Empty all gasoline from the lawn mower. Turn the mower over and remove the blade retention bolt. Place a block of scrap wood between the blade and the mower deck to hold it in place long enough to loosen the bolt. Remove the blade from the spindle and set aside.
-
Step 2
Turn the mower back over onto its wheels. Inspect the wheels for any debris or obstructions that might interfere with rotation and remove if found.
-
Step 3
Inspect the pull-cord leading into the flywheel casing. Ensure there are no cuts or frays on the cable and replace if any exist.
-
Step 4
Change the oil in the mower's engine according to the manufacturer's specifications and at regular intervals.
-
Step 5
Remove the air filter and look for blockages or a build up of dirt and debris. Clean or replace depending on the type of filter. Typically, replace after every 25 hours of use.
-
Step 6
Check the spark plug for cracks, residue build up and gap gauge. Clean any residue from the plug with a wire brush. Replace plug if cracked. Measure gap and adjust according to the lawn mower's manual.
