How to Use Macros in World of Warcraft
Macros in World of Warcraft allow you to create your own actions that you can place in your hotbar or sidebar for quick use. You can use macros in World of Warcraft to cast spells, repeat dialog, join or leave chat channels and more.
Instructions
-
-
1
Type "/macro" in the chat window to open your macro window. Here is where you can create new macros or edit existing ones. Click the "New" button at the bottom of the pate to insert a new macro, or you can click on an existing macro icon to edit that macro.
-
2
Name and choose an icon for your new macros by clicking the "Change Name/Icon" button. Try to pick a name that will let you know with quick reference what the macro does and an icon that will reflect the macro's purpose.
-
-
3
Insert the commands for your macro in the text box at the bottom of the window. Use slash commands, like /say, /dance or /cast to begin your macro. Make sure that you do not exceed the characters used limit, which is 255.
-
4
Use macros to cast spells and abilities. You can set up a macro to cast a spell like fireball by typing "/cast fireball" in the text field. Drag the icon to your hotbar and hit the necessary key to cast your fireball.
-
5
Set up a macro to say dialog over the chat channel that you do not want to have to type in often. This is handy if you are selling a lot of something. You can set up a macro that says "/2 WTS copper bar" that will tell everyone in the trade channel that you want to sell copper bars.
-
6
Combine multiple actions on one macro. You cannot set a macro up to play World of Warcraft automatically for you, but you can combine actions such as casting and talking, so you could use the macro from Step 4, put a new line under the first action that says "/say Burn!" and every time you cast your fireball with that macro, your character will say "Burn!"
-
7
Find some creative ways to use macros. You can use them with hunters and warlocks to send in your pet while you cast a spell or ability. You can also use macros to feed pets automatically or to heal party members. Check out some macro guides such as those found on the World of Warcraft website or the Game FAQs macro page for World of Warcraft.

Well I think it was great. You have to walk before you run. This was for people trying to understand the basics for setting up a marco's and it was done very nicely. Thank you for your insite....oldknight -

I can get this how to from the tool tips in the game itself. I was looking for something with more detailed information. This was absolutely not helpful. :-(
