Catch the attention of a medical office manager with a resume that highlights both your educational qualifications and work experience. As you write your resume, stick to a traditional format. Medical assistants are required to be polite, neat and professional, and you'll want your resume to reflect those qualities.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Write a resume that highlights your relevant work experience in other medical assistant jobs. Demonstrate that you have applicable experience in a wide range of duties, including taking patients' vital signs, accessing medical histories, assisting doctors with patient examinations, performing common lab tests and clean up.
Step2
Include any and all relevant clerical work or administrative work you've done. Light clerical and administrative work is an important secondary job skill for most medical assistants.
Step3
Highlight your specialization, if applicable. Some medical assistants have specialized training and experience. If you are hoping to be involved in a specialized practice instead of being a general medical assistant, state this clearly when you write your resume.
Step4
Write your resume so that it shows your ability to work as part of a diverse, well-organized team. This is especially important when you are working in a smaller practice, where you will be expected to get along with every member of the existing medical team.
Step5
Include in your medical assistant resume evidence that you can work with minimal supervision in an often-hectic environment. Medical assistants often work long hours in very stressful circumstances.
Step6
Focus on any positions you've held as a medical volunteer, especially if you haven't had much experience in a professional setting. This may help give prospective employers more confidence in your abilities, and will supply you with both a conversation piece and an additional reference.
Step7
List your certifications and degrees. Education is an important component in the job requirements for a medical assistant. Include all the schools you've been to, all the programs you've finished and all certifications earned or in progress.
Step8
Specify the type of work environment you are looking for. Medical assistants work in a variety of places, such as doctor's offices and hospitals.

Tips & Warnings

  • Include references from office managers and doctors right on your resume if you believe they will help you, or simply write "References Available Upon Request." If you state that they are available, have a references sheet ready when you turn in your resume.
