How to keep your toaster looking and perfoming like new

Most toasters look worn and don't work like they did when they were new. Here's how to keep yours functioning like the first day you plugged it in.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Paper towels or lint free cloth towel
  • Appliance cleaner (non-ammonia glass cleaner works well)
  • Compressed air can

Step1
After every use, unplug the toaster and wipe down the exterior of the cooled down toaster with a mild appliance cleaner and a paper towel or lint free towel.
Step2
Once a week when the toaster is unplugged and cool, tip it upside down and shake out the crumbs.
Step3
Once a week, if there is one or more crumb trays on the bottom, remove them and clean them with a water dampened paper towel.
Step4
One a month, when the toaster is unplugged and cool, tip it sideways and use a can of compressed air (available at hardware stores) to blow out the crumbs that remain stuck inside. Make sure you do this over a sink, trash can, or outdoors and be careful not to get crumbs in your eyes!

Tips & Warnings

  • Never stick anything inside the toaster. Doing so may cause damage to the heating elements.
  • Always unplug your toaster after every use.
  • Always unplug and let the toaster cool before cleaning.
