Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- bottle or lolly jacks shims carrage bolts washers and nuts
Step1
cut sister joist so it hangs at least 2 feet over center beam
Step2
place new joist against sagging joist and place lolly jack upto both joists
Step3
jack both up so that all joists are level making sure not to go to high and causing floor to crack
Step4
place shims in all locations betwwen sub floor and top of joists
Step5
procceed to drill 1/2 inch holes every 16 inches so you can fasten joists together make certain to use washers so you dont pull through wood
Step6
recheck for a level floor then slowly lower jacks and recheck

on 9/6/2007 dont be discouraged you may be able to do this task it just may take some time since you havent done it before. maybe someone can help you at least just a second hand

on 9/5/2007 Thanks for posting this, perhaps I do not want to attempt this on my own, but I would not have known had I not read this... I was hoping it would be something simple like place a supporting beam next to the original beam and nail together. :) I was also considering raising a portion of the floor, but thats probably not realistic either. THanks for your article.
