This is the most affordable way to convert cassettes to cds aside from just running a patch cord into a stand alone CD recorder.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ADS Tech Instant Music
  • Nero 7.0 or higher
  • RCA style Stereo Patch cord
  • Windows based PC
  • Cassette player with RCA style audio outputs
  1. Step 1

Hook up ADS Instant Music with included USB cable and AC adapter to ine of the computers usb ports and install the driver CD if necessary.

  2. Step 2

Connect one end of the patch cord to the RCA jacks marked RCA audio in on the back of the instant music unit. Be sure to match the colors of the plugs to the colors of the jacks.

  3. Step 3

Connect the other end to the audio out jacks on the cassette player, again making sure the colors match.

  4. Step 4

Install Nero 7 or above if you have not already.

  5. Step 5

Open nero soundtracks. This is the program that will record onto your hard drive. set the program to record in MP3 or a similar format andf for an output folder you can easily find later when you are ready to burn.

  6. Step 6

Stsrt the cassette then start nero soundtracks.

  7. Step 7

Edit the recording into separate tracks if Nero fails to do it automatically due to tape hiss.

  8. Step 8

Open nero burning rom or nero express or another CD burning program and create a compilation with your newly recorded tracks. They will be in the folder you specified in Nero soundtracks.

  9. Step 9

    Burn your compilation to CD.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may have to experiment with volume settings on your cassette player and the input settings on nero to acheive a quality recording the first few times out. but after you have been doing this for awhile you will get an idea of how to set up and it will go much quicker. Patience is the key! The only simpler way of doing this is to runa a patch cord between a stand alone CD recorder and a cassette player. This is much harder to adjust for volume/input and you cannot edit the tracks before burning them, so the way you record them is what you are stuck with. If you make a mistake you will make a lot of "coasters" and waste your valueable time and $$$!
