Ironing mens or womens dress shirt is simple and quick with the following tips. It's an easy way to cut dry cleaning costs and prolong the life of your shirts.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ironing board
  • iron
  • spray bottle (empty Fabreeze or car tire cleaner spray bottles work just fine.)
  1. Step 1

If you are pressing a laundered shirt with wrinkles, spray the whole shirt with the spray bottle until damp. Doing this will give you the best result. Steam from irons aren't always strong enough to take out the creases when the shirt is dry.

  2. Step 2

Set the iron temp to cotton without steam. Press collar and cuffs first since they don't wrinkle much once dry.

  3. Step 3

Press the shoulder area followed by sleeves. Some prefer no crease on the sleeves, if so, press the sleeve up to the lengthwise edge then rotate to finish pressing the wet edge.

  4. Step 4

Press the back. You don't have to do a perfect job since back is almost always wrinkled by the car seat on the way to work.

  5. Step 5

Press the front. Focus on the chest area and less on the lower part of the shirt.

Tips & Warnings
  • Starch spray cans are great for giving little more stiffness to the collar and cuffs.
  • Avoid shirts made with man-made fabrics which are tougher to press. 100% cotton shirts are the best!

on 7/28/2008 I use starch but it never seems to come out as stiff as they do at the dry-cleaners. Any tips on that?
