Step 1
Check in with your four-year-old's preschool teacher constantly. Chaos when you drop off your preschooler or pick them up may require that you schedule an appointment with your preschooler's teacher.
-
Step 2
Talk to your preschooler. Four-year-olds can go off on tangents or may be difficult to understand, but ask your preschooler how school went. Talk to them about what they learned.
-
Step 3
Encourage learning at home. If your preschooler is learning about bugs, invest in a bug book, a bug coloring book, go bug hunting and look up bug information on the Internet.
-
Step 4
Practice at home. Four-year-olds typically start learning how to form letters, how to spell their name and very basic math. Have your preschooler practice the things they're learning at home because learning takes repetition.
-
Step 5
Work on behavior issues. A big part of preschool is learning about social behaviors. Your preschooler is learning not only beginning math and reading, but also what kind of behavior is acceptable and what kind isn't. If your preschooler is having problems keeping their hands to themselves, using anger appropriately or speaking clearly, work on these things at home. Speak to your preschooler's teacher and pediatrician for more information.
