Cook tops come in diverse varieties and require a different approach to care and maintenance. Regular cleaning after every use is always recommended to keep your cook top looking like new. Use these methods to keep your cook top clean and shiny.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Treat your cook top according to its material. If your cook top is made of enamel, use a soft sponge and mild dish washing liquid to clean the surface and knobs. Avoid using abrasive materials as they can damage the surface. Blot away any acidic spill such as lemon juice or vinegar with a clean paper towel. They can leave permanent markings if left untreated.

  2. Step 2

Clean a cook top with electric coils by removing the drip pans from underneath the coils. Use a steel wool pad to scrub off hard stains. Use a hard brush to clean the drip dishes with soapy water. Clean the area around the coils with a damp clean cloth.

  3. Step 3

Soak the removable metal parts of a gas burner cook top in soapy water for one hour. This softens any accumulated grease and oil and makes it easy to clean later with a hard brush. Also clean the burner with a damp cloth and avoid touching the ignite.

  4. Step 4

Purchase a commercial cleaner specially made to clean smooth cook tops. This style cook top does not have any cervices, therefore spills will directly fall on the cook top and must be wiped away as soon as possible. Spray the cleaner on the cook top when it cools down. Let it stand for a few minutes and wipe with a soft clean damp cloth to remove spills and burnt food. Do not use abrasive liquids or steel wool on smooth cook tops.

Tips & Warnings
  • Let the cook top cool down before cleaning.
  • Wear gloves when using cleaning products.
