If you've finally found a perfect skimboard that beautifully handles any shorebreak that the beach throws at it, and you want to travel to a new surf destination, you'll need to take care of a few things before you take it with you. Follow these steps to take your skimboard on an airplane.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Check with the airline. Make sure that you can bring your skimboard on your flight and that bringing the skimboard on the plane won't cost you any extra handling fees. Check the airline's website or speak with customer service to get all the details related to taking the skimboard on the plane.
Step2
Protect the nose. Like a surfboard, the most vulnerable part of a skimboard is the nose. Unfortunately, if the nose gets damaged, the board is basically worthless until it gets fixed. To prevent damage, take a piece of heavy duty foam and duct tape it around the nose to keep the board safe.
Step3
Pack the board into its board bag. Use a special skimboard bag to take the skimboard on the plane. It's important that you use a correctly sized bag so the board doesn't shift or get jostled during the flight. Pack the board into the bag with some bubble wrap or foam to protect it from dings and dents.
Step4
Label the bag with "Fragile" stickers and with your name, address and contact details. Doing so will ensure that baggage handlers take a little bit of extra care and will also give you better standing in case the skimboard does get damaged.
