How to Become a Water Ski Instructor

Nothing beats having fun in the sun while getting paid for it. Beside the typical lifeguard duty that is always related to beaches, being a surf instructor or water ski instructor also let you acquire that tan.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Enroll in a certification program in your area. Water ski instructors are usually taught the basic beginner mono positions; however there are typically three classifications of skiing: slalom, trick and jump. Check to see if your program teaches all three forms.
Step2
Keep up to date with your certifications. The initial program you take will most likely have CPR and First Aid as a requirement. You must renew these certifications as well as your water ski certifications depending on your state laws.
Step3
Pay all certification and licensing fees. Payment of your certification is usually annual. If you do not wish to keep your membership up to date, you simply stop paying the fee.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear a tight or sport bathing suit both while taking the course and after while teaching. Racer back suits for women or Speedos for men are usually the best bathing suits because they will not slip off.
  • Protect your skin by always wearing sun protection as well as sunglasses.
