Spanish 21 is a version of blackjack that's popping up at the casinos. It's played a little differently than regular 21, and you don't have to speak Spanish to play. Understanding the difference in its rules will help you win big at the table the next time you see Spanish 21 at a casino.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Money
  1. Step 1

Sit down at a Spanish 21 table and lay the amount of money out that you wish to use. The dealer will give you the appropriate amount of chips.

  2. Step 2

Decide how much you wish to bet and place the bet in the appropriate spot. There should be a second spot for a bet. This is the match bet.

  3. Step 3

Place a "Match the Dealer" bet, if you'd like. The payoff is 12 to 1 for a "perfect" and 3 to 1 for a "small match." The perfect match is where one or both of your cards match the dealer up card in both number and suit. If they both match, which is possible since 6 or more decks are used, then you get a 24 to 1 pay out. The small match is if the number matches. You can get two small matches or a small and a perfect. Each card will pay individually. A small and a perfect pays 15 to 1; 12 to 1 for the perfect and 3 to 1 for the small match.

  4. Step 4

Look at your cards and always a 12 and a 13 against any dealer upcard. If you know how to play normal blackjack, this is a hard thing to do. However, there are no ten cards in the deck of Spanish 21, though there are face cards. This means the dealer's chance of busting is less.

  5. Step 5

Collect your money right away when you get an amount that equals 21, whether it is on the fifth card or first. If you get a five card 21 you get paid like a blackjack, a six card gets 2 to 1 and a seven card gets 3 to 1.

  6. Step 6

Double down at any time you have 3 cards out and the total equals 11.

  7. Step 7

Look for matching seven cards. If your first 2 cards are sevens that match, and the dealer gets any seven card, then there's a chance for the seven's bonus. If your next card is also a matching seven, you get between $1,000 and $5,000 as a bonus. The rest of the players get an envy bonus.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your match bet cannot be bigger than your regular bet.
  • Watch for match bet minimums.
  • The match tends to run in streaks; raise your bet slightly if you hit.
  • Before you sit down, check the table minimums. If they are more than which you wish to loose, don't sit down!
