How to Play Contra

Contra is a two-dimensional scrolling screen shooter. The violence is very mild, but you do shoot other people so this title is not recommended for younger children. The game play is based around a single operative who is assaulting an enemy base. Through several boss battles and different levels you defeat your enemies and win the game.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

1. Maneuver your character by using the D-Pad or the left analog stick. Shoot your weapon by pressing "A" and jump by pressing "B." Point up or down diagonally to shoot on the diagonal instead of just straight ahead or straight up.
2. Lay down by holding down on the D-Pad. If you press "B" while laying down on one of the upper levels of the screen, you slide down to the level below.
3. Avoid being hit by enemy fire as well as touching any enemies. If you touch an enemy or get shot, your character dies.
4. Pay attention to how many lives you have by looking at the top of the screen where it says "REMAIN P ##." The numbers shown are how many lives you have left.
5. Look for enemy gun turrets that pop up from small dirt piles in the ground. Some enemies also jump from water or pop up from behind bushes to try to surprise and shoot you. Look closely to see them before they come out,r then shoot them as soon as they do.
6. Fight each boss by eliminating any turrets it has that fire at you first. Then there generally is a red or blue part of the boss that you can shoot. Hit these colored parts of the boss enough times with your weapon until you destroy the boss. Then you advance to the next stage.
7. Collect power-ups that appear when you destroy certain objects. These power-ups look like pilot wings with a letter in the middle of them. They give you more powerful weapons to destroy your enemies.

Tips & Warnings

• Earn more lives by scoring large amounts of points. The game displays in the top left how many points you need for "1UP" which means one additional life.
