The original concept of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America began in 1912 with Juliette Gordon Low. She had a vision of gathering girls together to help them develop mentally, spiritually and physically and to increase their sense of community service. The Girl Scout Gold Award exemplifies the original purpose of the organization. Here's how you can help a girl scout earn the coveted Gold Award.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
Read all of the material your girl scout has received about the Gold Award to learn what the process involves.
Step2
Assist her in choosing a project that will achieve her goals. The decision must be something she is interested in, but you can guide her in a direction that you feel will be attainable for her.
Step3
Offer support and encouragement, but the idea of achieving the award must be hers. She must have the motivation to meet the objectives necessary to earn the award.
Step4
Provide positive support during the process of developing her project. Let her know that you believe in her capabilities and that you support her readiness to assume a responsible role in her community.
Step5
Help her locate other adults who may be able to offer leads to contacts and financial resources. You may know someone who can offer advice in the particular area she has chosen for her project.
Step6
Make sure her ideas for raising money to finance her project are safe and are representative of the principles of the Girl Scouts.
Step7
Let her learn and grow through trial and error when she is striving to achieve the Girl Scout Gold Award. Her project adviser and a group from the mentor committee will also assist her. If asked, you can assist her, but she must plan, organize and finalize the project herself under the guidance of her advisers.
