Step 1
Be a citizen of the United States of America and not a permanent swim coach in or for a foreign country.

Step 2
Join USA Swimming as a coach member.

Step 3
Coach a swimmer swimming in the finals of the U.S. Olympic Trials for at least 90 days during the preceding 18 months.

Step 4
Agree to and sign the National Team's guidelines. Look for your automatic inclusion on the National Team Coach List.

Step 5
Complete an application to join the National Team Coaching Pool.

Step 1
Meet the guidelines. Obtain a valid driver's license, passport and be at least 25 years of age.

Step 2
Coach swimming on a national level and get your name on the National Team Coach List.

Step 3
Consent to a background check.

Step 4
Interview with the appointed National Team selection committees and fill out any additional applications or requested forms.

Step 5
Accept a position in the National Team Coaching Pool. Reapply each quarter if you have not been selected to serve on the national staff.

Step 6
Wait for notification that the National Team Director has named you to Pool 4 or 5 or as Head or Assistant Coach for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team. Accept a lesser position with the National Team if one is offered.
