One of Paris' most recognizable sights is the Arc de Triomphe. This widely recognized structure serves as a monument to the unknown soldiers of World War I. Commissioned by Napoleon in 1806, many tourists experience this landmark every year. If you wish to be one of them, read on to learn how to visit the Arc de Triomphe.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Observe the operating hours of the Arc de Triomphe. From April until September, the Arc is open from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. The rest of the year, the monument is open from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. The last admission takes place 30 minutes before closing.

  2. Step 2

Get tickets for the Arc de Triomphe. You can purchase tickets in person on site. The Arc de Triomphe is also part of the Paris Museum Pass, which includes over 40 of Paris' premier attractions on one card. To purchase the Paris Museum Pass, visit the official website (see resources below). The Arc is free the first Sunday of the month.

  3. Step 3

Climb to the top of the Arc de Triomphe. The monument has an impressive 284 stair case with no elevator available except to those with disabilities. The top of the Arc provides a beautiful view of the Parisian landscape. Marvel at the hordes of cars below navigating the enormous roundabout, which circles the monument. Telescopes are available for a small rental fee. Check out the small museum just before the exit to the roof of the Arc.

  4. Step 4

Use public transportation to get to the Arc de Triomphe. If riding the Metro/RER system, exit at the Charles de Gaulle-Etoile exit. Conveniently locate the underground walkway from the Champs-Elysees so you do not have to cross the busy street.
