Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Identify the type of doorknob you have. Older styles normally have glass, porcelain or heavy brass doorknobs. Newer models are usually gold or silver in color and have a more modern shape.
Step2
Locate the screw-set on the doorknob. Older models will have the screw-set on the side of the doorknob, while on modern handles you will see a slot on the side of the handle that's just large enough to stick a narrow screwdriver in it.
Step3
Loosen the screw-set enough so you can turn the doorknob without triggering the latch.
Step4
Turn the doorknob clockwise until it is close fitting, being careful to not tighten too much. Finish by tightening the screw-set back so the screw lies flat against the side of the doorknob.
Step5
Push a screwdriver into the slot if you have an older doorknob to remove the doorknob so you do not trigger the latch.
Step6
Remove the plate, if your knob has one, by pressing the spring clip located on the edge of the plate.
Step7
Tighten the two screws that were hidden by the decorative plate until they are hand tight. Replace the cover and push the knob back onto the spindle until it snaps in place.
