Changing eating habits seems challenging. But by adjusting your everyday lifestyle, you can easily replace bad habits with good ones. Like any habit, eating habits depend on what you surround yourself with on a daily basis. The key to eating healthy everyday is controlling your environment. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Learn what a balanced diet is—the famous food pyramid has changed and is no longer so carb-heavy. Focus on eating less bread products and more fruits, vegetables and dairy, with a few whole-wheat foods and a few meats.
Step2
Include low-fat dairy products like skim milk, and prepare lean meat, avoiding red meat. Fish is the best meat to eat, with fatty fish being the most beneficial. Chicken or ground turkey can substitute for red meat in almost any recipe.
Step3
Start your metabolism early in the day by eating breakfast.
Step4
Eat fruits and vegetables with every meal and as healthy snacks. Add fruit to your cereal or to yogurt for breakfast. Similarly, have a salad or a sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and sprouts for lunch, and throw in at least two vegetables to what you are having for dinner.
Step5
Enjoy foods rich in protein such as fish, eggs, nuts and beans because these help you feel full longer and curb your appetite.
Step6
Plan what you are going to eat every day, and avoid having to make quick decisions about meals. Arranging healthy meals and having the materials ready to prepare them is key. Quick decisions are often be unhealthy ones.

Tips & Warnings

  • Eat when you are hungry, eat slowly, and stop eating when you start to feel full. If you get hungry later, it's okay to eat again,. However, follow the same rules.
  • Keep healthy snacks like apples or granola bars with you when you go out so that you don't need to stop for fast food when you get a little bit hungry.
  • Throwing vegetables into pasta works really well, or stir frying a wide variety of vegetables to eat with brown rice. Eat beans and green leafy vegetables whenever you can, as these are some of the most beneficial items you can eat.
  • It also helps to have a few healthy options for eating out. If you don't have anything wholesome on hand to cook, you can still eat a balanced meal.
