How to Celebrate Milestone Birthdays at Work

When that co-worker has a special day, whether it is the big 3-0 or 6-0, it 's always nice to commemorate it in some way. While over-the-hill parties might be good for your office jester or your best friend at work, there are other ways to celebrate that might be more suitable for your boss, receptionist or another co-worker. Read on to learn more. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Define the day and the overall theme. You might want to honor or flatter your co-worker, or perhaps you just want to have fun. A close office friend might even deserve some heckling. Decide what the spirit of the day is and go from there.

    • 2

Decide when to celebrate. While the person's actual birthday is the obvious choice, if it falls on a weekend you might have to go with either the Friday before or the Monday after.

    • 3

Alert your co-workers. Unless the party is supposed to be a surprise, also alert the honoree. Don't give too much away, though. Because you don't want the birthday boy to fret, a simple "office gathering" is all he really needs to know.

    • 4

Gather supplies. Ask for volunteers to bring snacks, plastic utensils, paper plates, decorations and any other accessories they might want. As the host, you should bring a cake or other suitable refreshments. Have everyone in the office sign a card to give to the birthday girl.

Tips & Warnings

  • For an extra kick, include something personalized. At any age--30, 40, or 50--of something small she can use at the office (or away from the office) would be nice. Or if the honoree has been at the company for a number of years, try to track down a photo of him from his younger days on the job and use it as a decoration for the party.
