Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get an academic degree. While most careers prefer a degree, not all require them. Architects, like doctors and lawyers have legal and social responsibilities that require them to get at least a 5 year Bachelor of Architecture degree. Many go on to get Master's degrees as well.

  2. Step 2

Work an internship while in college. Many architecture firms are eager to hire young talent and ambition. Be willing to do this for free.

  3. Step 3

Attain the right knowledge and skill set. It may help to hone skills outside of college requirements also. Take drawing classes, modeling and sculpture classes, design classes and even extra math classes. These things can be started before college, even in high school or junior high.

  4. Step 4

Start an architectural career by getting experience in the other aspects of architecture. Work in zoning, deal with building codes, be a drafter or build models. All of these are things that architects often have others do for them.

  5. Step 5

Have exceptional communication and sales skills. The most successful architects have the ability to sell their ideas.

  6. Step 6

Look for jobs in the right places. Live in large areas where there's a supply of architectural jobs. Have an impeccable portfolio and resume for interviews.
