Everyone knows what lawn gnomes are: those short, cute creatures that watch out for the goods in your garden. Most people don't know, however, that there is more than one way to get your collection started. Read on to learn more.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy a single gnome. Many people say they have started collections because they wanted one gnome, then fell in love with the little guys. Some manufactures sell collections of gnomes that can be bought one at a time. You can pick one gnome out of a collection that matches your taste, home, garden and budget and then go from there.

  2. Step 2

Search second-hand stores, antique stores and garage sales for a more eclectic look. You could try collecting different gnomes from different countries, or gnomes taking part in different activities.

  3. Step 3

Put them on your wish list. Once your friends and family know you want to or are collecting gnomes, it's a good bet that you'll be seeing more on your birthdays and on holidays.

  4. Step 4

Try different gnomes for different areas of your property. Some gnomes are made to go in a garden, some near hedges and others in the lawn.

  5. Step 5

Add some variety. Several companies have put a humorous twist on the traditional gnome. You can buy gnomes that are squatting or mooning. If butts aren't your style, you can purchase candle gnomes, glow-in-the dark gnomes and talking gnomes.
