Mangosteen is a tree of the species Garcinia Mangostana. The fruit is 1 to 3 inches in diameter, smooth and round. The mangosteen is a dark reddish purple and the flesh is good with a mild acidic flavor. It probably originated in the Sunda Islands and the Moluccas and may have been first domesticated in Thailand. The following steps will show how to use mangosteen for health.

Step1
Examine the role of the mangosteen in traditional medicine. The fruits are dried and shipped to Calcutta and China where they have many uses.
Step2
Slice and powder the dried mangosteen rind. It is then administered to overcome dysentery. Make the powdered rind of the mangosteen into an ointment and apply it to the skin to treat eczema and other disorders. Drink a decoction of the mangosteen rind to relieve cystitis, diarrhea and gonorrhea. It is also applied to the skin as an astringent.
Step3
Make a decoction from the mangosteen bark and leaves to treat diarrhea, dysentery, thrush and urinary disorders. An infusion of the leaves is mixed with benzoin and green banana and applied to a circumcision wound. An extract of the bark is claimed to be effective in treating amoebic dysentery.
Step4
Use a decoction of the root of the mangosteen tree to treat menstrual irregularities.
Step5
Be advised that the Food and Drug Administration does not allow any claims to be made regarding the medicinal benefits regarding any part of the mangosteen tree.
