Instructions

    Buying a Customized Classic

  1. Step 1

Research the type of car you are interested in buying. Go online and find out what the car was originally equipped with. Find out the original colors of paint, type of motor and transmission, type and size of wheels and interior options.

  2. Step 2

Search through online websites, classified ads and car magazines to find out what a restored classic auto costs. The cost may vary greatly depending on what area of the country you live in, as well as the degree of restoration of the car.

  3. Step 3

Verify that the custom classic auto you are buying has OEM parts. Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts are a must in a classic car being custom built.

  4. Step 4

Add whatever options you want if buying a custom tricked out street rod. You are limited only by your imagination and pocketbook.

  5. Step 5

Check the reputation of the restoration company before you buy a customized classic auto. If you are buying a custom tricked out street rod, make sure the builder adds everything you have paid for and is considered reputable.

  6. Buying a New Custom Auto

  7. Step 1

Price the basic model of car you want to customize. Search online at dealerships and the manufacturer website. You can also search for basic prices in classified ads and auto magazines.

  8. Step 2

Visit the manufacturer website to find out what custom options are available for your preferred model. Options can include paint and trim packages, audio and interior upgrades, wheel types and safety options. Many manufacturer websites have a point and click system so you can see what the customized auto looks like.

  9. Step 3

Get an online price after choosing the custom options for your auto. Print the page with the options and price included, then go to local dealers to get their best price. Be prepared to wait a few weeks for the delivery of a custom new car.
