Collecting antiques is an enjoyable hobby that is all about the hunt. Weekend antiquing trips organized to search a particular area for treasures are lots of fun when you plan them well. To get the most out of your antiquing trip, follow these steps.

From Quick Guide: Weekend Getaway
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Map
  • Suitcase
  • Empty box
  1. Step 1

Determine where you want to spend your weekend, and decide on your date of departure.

  2. Step 2

Search online for accommodations by opening a search engine and typing the name of the city you plan on visiting followed by the type of lodging such as a bed and breakfast, an inn or a hotel.

  3. Step 3

Purchase a map of the area or region where you plan to spend your weekend antiquing trip. Chart a course of antique stores, shops and other establishments you want to visit over the two days of your visit.

  4. Step 4

Create a backup plan in case one or more of the shops you want to visit are closed. Antique stores are sometimes open by appointment only. If one you plan to visit isn't open, have at least a few close alternatives.

  5. Step 5

Decide on restaurants in the area where you can dine over the weekend. Contact the area's chamber of commerce or visitors' bureau for recommendations.

  6. Step 6

Bring a predetermined amount of money with you, which prevents you from overspending once you arrive.

  7. Step 7

Take at least one empty suitcase or box along with you for carrying your antique purchases home with you. If you plan on buying furniture, rent a trailer to pull behind your car.

  8. Step 8

Drive to your weekend trip destination, check into your bed and breakfast, inn or hotel and start antiquing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pack lightly. Then if you buy more antiques than you originally planned, you can use the empty space in your suitcase for overflow purchases.
  • Don't spend all the money you brought with you on the first day. Spend the first day browsing, and only purchase those antiques you really want. On the second day, return to some of the stores you visited on the first day to buy those objects that you still desire.
