By properly installing your boat anchor tackle, you can ensure that both your boat and the people on it are safer. Installing your boat anchor tackle can be difficult if you haven't done it before. Follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drill
  • Tackle
  • Bolts
  • Pencil or marker
  1. Step 1

Put your boat in water that is waist deep at low tide so that you will be able to maneuver yourself easily while you're installing the anchor tackle.

  2. Step 2

Lay out the hardware on the platform. Place each piece where it will be after it's installed. Know exactly where each piece goes. Be able to visually identify the pieces as being in the correct place before you begin installation.

  3. Step 3

Make marks for the mounting points for your boat anchor tackle to give you a template. Use a pencil or a marker to note the mounting points on each piece of the tackle that needs to be bolted into the platform.

  4. Step 4

Drill holes in the spots that you have marked. Use a drill bit that gives you enough room to get the bolt in. Drill to an appropriate depth for each bolt that you use to secure the anchor tackle to the platform.

  5. Step 5

Mount the anchor tackle to the platform by bolting each piece of the tackle to the platform. Use appropriately sizes bolts for each piece of tackle. The anchor tackle should come with bolts for installation. Keep track of which bolts go to each piece of the anchor tackle. Some pieces will have more strain put on them than others, so it's important that they be properly secured.

Tips & Warnings
  • Put epoxy on the bottoms of the tackle pieces just before you bolt them to the platform so that they will hold more securely.
  • Attach your platform to the boat well. If your platform isn't well attached, your tackle won't work well.
