If you love to pot flowers but are weary of running back and forth for supplies, you should designate a corner of your garage as a potting area. Keeping your tools and clay pots in one spot makes an already enjoyable task a lot more so. Use these tips as a guide and customize them according to your needs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Potting bench
  • Pegboard
  • Pegboard hooks
  • Standing shelf
  • Rolling trash can

Step1
Decide where in your garage to situate the potting area and clear it out. Make sure the lighting is good. If not, consider adding a fluorescent light strip.
Step2
Purchase an inexpensive potting bench at your local home improvement center. If you are handy, you can make one yourself. Simple instructions can be found on the web or in a how-to book. Situate the bench in the potting area.
Step3
Attach a large pegboard to the wall above the potting bench. With pegboard hooks, hang all your tools--trowels, clippers, trimmers, and your gardening hat. Small wire baskets can be attached to the hooks to hold smaller items such as gloves and seed packets.
Step4
Place a standing shelf to one side of the potting bench to hold clay pots, saucers and watering cans. This is also a good place for your collection of gardening books.
Step5
Mix and store potting soil in a large covered trash container. One with rollers is best.
Step6
Add whimsy by adding a personalized sign letting everyone know that this is your personal spot. Keep it organized and make your planting more fun and stress-free.
