You have bought a new window box and now it is time to attach it to the house. You may be unsure how to do it and wonder if you should hire someone to help. Well, you don't have to. With a drill, two anchors and a couple of L brackets you can do it yourself. Follow these steps to learn how.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Drill
  • L brackets
  • Anchors and lag screws
  • Hammer
  • Socket wrench

Step1
Hold the window box up to the wall below your window and mark the bottom of the wall. This is where the bottom of your L brackets should line up.
Step2
Drill holes in the wall where you want to attach the angle brackets to support your window box. Remember that the mark you made in Step One indicates the location of the bottom of the L brackets.
Step3
Tap the anchors into the holes with a hammer. Do not hit them too hard--they just require a light tap.
Step4
Attach the anchors to the wall by drilling two inch lag screws into the anchored holes. Tighten them snugly with a socket wrench.
Step5
Secure the window box to the L bracket by setting it on the brackets. Drill lag screws underneath the window box through the holes in the L bracket.

Tips & Warnings

  • When drilling a brick wall it is easier to use a hammer drill with a half-inch carbide tipped bit.
  • If you have a wide window box, use additional L brackets for extra support. If it looks like the box may sag in the middle, add two extra brackets for good measure. It is better to be safe then sorry.
