How to Arrange for Pet Cremation

When you have a pet he becomes a member of your family. When he passes away it is a tough time for everyone and you want him to be treated with love and dignity. Many people elect cremation for their beloved pet. Sprinkle the ashes in a place that was special, bury the urn or place the urn in your home near a favorite picture. Follow these steps to arrange your pet's cremation.

  1. Step 1

    Call a local pet funeral service company. If you have trouble locating a company, contact your veterinarian to ask for a referral. Ask the company for details about the cremation service and cost.

  2. Step 2

    Bring your pet to the crematory or arrange to have the company pick him up at your home. There is a usually a fee for pick up service.

  3. Step 3

    Ask the company to embalm your pet if you want to schedule a viewing and visitation. The embalming is done before the cremation so that family and friends can pay their respects and say goodbye.

  4. Step 4

    Have the cremation performed. Most pet funeral service companies perform this procedure with care and dignity. Your pet is a member of the family and they are sensitive to the owners' feelings.

  5. Step 5

    Choose an urn for your pet's remains. Urns come in a variety of sizes, styles and price ranges.

There is a company in Iowa that creates beautiful jewelry and framed memorials out of glass, their work is amazing and their prices are very reasonable.
