Instructions

    • 1

Obtain two pieces of spruce lumber that are about ten feet long each. Thin the planks with a sharp axe until they are about 5/8 inch thick. Do this six inches at a time and check your work periodically.

    • 2

Smooth the lumber to remove all bark residue. Stand up the wood vertical to the ground and run the axe along the edges.

    • 3

Plane the wood planks even thinner. Prop them up against a door and shave forward and outward. Taper the edges so that they are 3/8 inch thick.

    • 4

Lay the two pieces of lumber side by side. Attach them together using wooden braces.

    • 5

Steam the wood at one end. Slowly but firmly bend it over your knee. This will cause the planks to curve and build the front of the toboggan.

    • 6

Drill two holes in each piece of lumber about eight inches from the top. Secure rope on each side to make a pull handle.

    • 7

Apply a coat of wax for a smooth ride on the snow. Find wax at a ski or snowboard shop. You may need more than one coat to get a smooth finish.
