Located in the White River cultural district of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Zoo combines animal exhibits with an aquarium and a botanical garden. The Zoo, founded in 1964, is known for its worldwide animal conservation efforts. Over one million people visit this zoo each year.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Purchase tickets. Tickets are available at the Zoo's ticket desk and via their website. Discounts are offered for those 62 and older, those between two and twelve years old, AAA members and active and retired military. Children under two years old are admitted free. Admission is reduced during the winter months—November through February and while the Zoo is open year-round, operating hours change, so see the Zoo's website for a complete schedule.
Step2
Look at the animals. The Indianapolis Zoo features 360 species of animals from all over the world. The animals are housed in five separate biomes, areas that resemble the natural habitat of the creatures and allow them to interact with one another. These are Forest, Ocean, Plains, Deserts and Encounters, an area where zoo visitors can view selected animals up close.
Step3
Visit the Dolphin Pavilion. One of the most popular parts of the Zoo, the Dolphin Pavilion gives visitors a chance to swim with these amazing sea creatures as well as learn about them with films, live shows and an underwater viewing dome.
Step4
Enjoy the Rides. Thrill seekers will find plenty to enjoy at the Indianapolis Zoo. In addition to the animal exhibits, the park features classic rides, such as the traditional carousel and more exciting rides, such as the Komba Family Coaster.
Step5
View the Botanical Garden. Adjacent to the animal exhibits is a 3.3 acre garden complex. Displays include a shade garden, a sun garden, a water garden, a formal knot garden and a wedding garden. There's always something blooming.
