Joining a gun club is not only fun, but it is also a great way to get in shooting time safe and legally. There are hundreds of gun clubs around the U.S., many of which offer more than just a shooting range. They let you host events, they host competitions and are more family-friendly than in the past. These steps will help you learn more about gun clubs and how to join one.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Perform a web search for "gun clubs" or check your local yellow pages to find gun clubs in your area.
Step2
Ask your local sporting goods or gun store. They will have information on local gun clubs, as will the local National Rifle Association (NRA) office.
Step3
Find out how to join. There will be an application to fill out and membership dues to pay yearly. You may also be required to hold a board position or put in a certain amount of time at the range every month. Be sure to read all of the membership guidelines before joining.
Step4
Fill out the application. Pay your dues. Attend meetings. This will get you off to a great start and help you to meet other members of the gun club you choose. Also, get involved in club events and activities.

Tips & Warnings

  • Join as a family for a safe, controlled way to teach your children about gun safety.
  • Always keep guns locked in a gun safe, unloaded with a trigger lock on them to protect your children.
  • Make sure the gun club you are thinking about joining is legit. With the passing of many state laws that say anyone who owns a gun must be a member of a gun club, there are a number of fake gun clubs popping up that only exist on paper.
  • Ask if there are vacancies in the club before submitting your application and paying the filing fee. Some gun clubs have a waiting list.

on 3/24/2008 Good information.
I've also found when searching for a "gun club" online that if you follow with a comma and your city, all your gun clubs will pop up. Also, some gun clubs require a deposit to be put on their "wait" list. Just ask if you get a refund of your deposit if you change your mind and choose another club before making the deposit.
Good infomation. I agree that any family that has a gun should take the children to show them the safety, the power and the fear.
