Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Learn how to recognize a Cajun when you first meet them. Often with surnames ending in -eaux, Cajuns will sometimes prefix the first name with T- as a nickname, such as T-Carl Boudreaux.
Step2
Listen carefully when your Cajun date is talking, since they tend to mix up a few French words with their English and they speak with a strong accent that may be difficult to understand. Stand well away from them as they get excited easily and wave their hands around to make their point.
Step3
Get along with your Cajun date's family. Cajun's have strong family ties and extended families that may include a few third cousins, twice removed. Try to learn their names and a little bit about each one and you'll soon be welcomed to the fold with open arms.
Step4
Party hard with your Cajun or you'll soon be left home alone. Be prepared for Cajun dancing, Cajun eating, Cajun music and Cajun drinking. If you're the stay-at-home type, a Cajun may not be the person for you.
Step5
Learn to suck the head of the crawfish before eating the juicy meat from the tail. You'll start to feel like a real Cajun as you grab crawfish from the pile and dip it in a mayo and ketchup sauce. Also know that dirty rice doesn't mean literally that the rice is dirty, it's just a name.
Step6
Take your Cajun on a date to Avery Island to see where the famous Tabasco sauce is made. To show off, drink the whole miniature bottle that you get as a sample to show your Cajun that you'll be able to handle any spicy food his mama might serve.
