Step 1
Think about the greatness of God. Admire His beautiful creation or the remarkable sacrifice that Jesus made in order to make up for our shortcomings.
-
Step 2
Acknowledge God's greatness quietly to yourself or out loud. As you recognize the amazing things that God has done, it is natural to respond to them. A small gesture, like saying "Jesus, you are great" can get you started. You don't have to speak out loud either. God can see even when we acknowledge Him in our heart.
-
Step 3
Increase your expression. Praise Jesus in new ways. Thank Him and express your gratitude for what He has done in your life. Try speaking out loud if you haven't yet. Another common expression is raising your hands above your head while praising Jesus.
-
Step 4
Use music or other settings to help you. There is a whole genre of music, sometimes called praise and worship, written to help people praise God. You can pray with a group of people and play the music live or you can buy a CD and praise Jesus at home.
-
Step 5
Praise Jesus on a regular basis. Over time you will grow more comfortable. Praising Jesus will help you get outside of yourself. As you regularly praise Jesus, you will grow more charitable toward other people.

on 10/4/2008 a good stepping stone into opening up the lines of communication, and practices for how to praise God.

on 5/22/2008 Thank you for this reminder. When the praises go up - the blessings do flow down. I don't know whn complaining became so popular. WE have so much to be grateful for. I was having a moment once - and my spirit quickly reminded me that Eve was living in Paradise and dwelled on something negative.... PRAISE HIM that we ate today. PRAISE HIM that we are clothed today. PRAISE HIM for housing. PRAISE HIM for friends and family. PRAISE HIM for another day to forgive others - repent - and try again. PRAISE HIM for His mercy....You can go all day long. I find by the time I go down the list of every little thing - I have forgotten why I was complaining. Praise. Praise. Praise is the key.
