Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Know that getting started on the Sugar Busters diet plan will not be easy. A realistic examination of your eating habits and sugar intake should be the first thing that you do. Obviously, foods like cookies, ice cream, candy and cake will not be allowed on this plan. Do a general clean out of your pantry and refrigerator so you will not be tempted.
Step2
Read the labels on foods that you would normally purchase and prepare. If the label says that the food contains high levels of sugar, corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup, these will need to be eliminated from your diet as well. Artificial sweeteners and sugar substitutes, even dextrose and sucrose should be taken out of your daily diet also. Honey, although natural, is another sugar that should be removed from your diet under Sugar Busters plan.
Step3
Add healthy carbs in to your diet. These should be whole grain breads and whole grain pastas eaten in moderation as all foods should be. In fact, carbs are a part of the Sugar Busters formula of 40/30/30. Know that 40 percent of your diet should consist of "healthy carbs," 30 percent of your diet should consist of "healthy proteins" and 30 percent of your diet should consist of "healthy fats." The healthy carbs are important in keeping the cholesterol levels in check and reduce sugar levels as the whole grains will keep the intestines working properly and provide the needed fiber for your body. The healthy proteins give you strength and substance and should come from very lean meats and fish. The healthy fats provide the oils that your body needs and should come from healthy vegetables and limited fruits.
Step4
Drink lots of water. With any diet plan or healthy eating lifestyle, drinking lots of water will help flush out your system
Step5
Limit the amount of fresh fruit under the Sugar Busters plan. In addition, replace fruit juices with water as the juices contain too much sugar for this diet plan. Even some vegetables, such as potatoes and corn, should be limited or not eaten under the Sugar Busters plan.
