Step 1
Subscribe to your home trash collection service's recycling program. Depending on the company, you may have to pay a small fee for this service, or it may be free. Even if you have to pay a monthly rate for recycling, it is still easier to put your recyclable goods out by the curb once a week than to have to drive to the nearest recycling facility. Some home recycling services even go as far as to reward you monetarily for every pound of material you recycle.
-
Step 2
Encourage kids to recycle by giving them all the monetary proceeds from recycling. Some cities pay individuals money per bag of recyclable material. Your children may get on board with the idea of recycling faster if they foresee cash in their immediate future. Give each child in the family a recycling assignment such as aluminum cans, glass, plastic bottles or newspapers.
-
Step 3
Place recycling bins next to your garbage can. It is a lot easier to recycle if you have all waste containers in the same area. If a member of your family knows he has to trek to the garage to put his aluminum cans in the bin, he is more likely to try to sneak them into the family garbage can.
-
Step 4
Find recycling centers near your house and use them creatively. Many grocery stores have recycling facilities, so you can combine trips to the grocery store with recycling drop-offs. If you have a recycling bin close enough, try walking to it.
