Child care is a major concern in today's society. In some areas, women put their names on waiting lists at good child care centers years before even conceiving the child. Choosing child care is a stressful decision. It is essential to choose child care that is a good fit for the child and can be afforded.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look at financial status. The cost of child care varies by the type. There are nannies, home-based day cares and child care centers. The lower the teacher to child ratio, the higher the cost. Choose child care that fits in a range that can be afforded.

  2. Step 2

Talk to other parents about their child care situations. Find out about which centers they think are best. Also ask about any centers they would not recommend.

  3. Step 3

Pay attention to the child's personality. Some children prefer more active environments than others. Some prefer structure, while others thrive on living in the moment. Each child's personality is different. Choose child care based on the child.

  4. Step 4

Consider one parent staying at home. The cost of child care is sometimes more than one salary when all expenses are considered. This is especially true when there are multiple children in the household.

  5. Step 5

Think of any family members or friends. Grandparents are becoming an increasingly popular choice for child care. This is a great way for them to enjoy retirement with their grandchildren, while helping out their kids.

  6. Step 6

Research child care centers. Information from the state Department of Health and Human Services can be obtained on complaints and investigations of centers.

  7. Step 7

Look into working from home. Telecommuting is a great way to make money while staying at home with the children. Another way to provide income from home is to watch other children for a fee. Any hobbies that could be used to earn income work, too.
