Microsoft PowerPoint includes many basic templates, but you often want a design that is more aligned with the topic of your presentation. PowerPoint allows you to create your own design templates with just a few clicks of the mouse button. Once created, these design templates will be available for future presentations.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open a blank presentation from the top menu by selecting "File" and then "New." A blank title slide will be opened.

  2. Step 2

Choose "View" from the top menu, then "Master" and "Slide Master." Use the "Slide Layout" menu to select the type of slide you will be modifying for your slide master.

  3. Step 3

Modify the master slide's font color, type, and size to fit your design idea. Consider different bullets. Also, move and resize the text box area to meet your specific design needs.

  4. Step 4

Change the background color or add a picture. Often, slide design templates have a small picture on the left border with text located in the text box on the main area of the slide. Try to match the background color or effect to the colors in your picture.

  5. Step 5

Click "File" and "Save As." Name your PowerPoint slide template and then select "Design Template" from the file type drop-down box at the bottom of the dialog box. Make sure to save your template with the other templates that come with Microsoft PowerPoint, in the folder found in Program Files/Microsoft Office/Templates/Presentation Designs.
